Trump has been impeached. He is dead meat walking. Republicans and others who continue to support him will join him in the dead meat dump. Trump was pushing the Putin idea that the Ukraine interfered in the US election rather than Russia. That has been shown to be completely off base. Biden was pushing to get rid of a corrupt prosecutor. Replacing him with an honest prosecutor might have been more likely to investigate the oil company. The idea that Trump gave a tinker's damn about actual Ukrainian corruption is indicated by his previous support of aid to Ukraine without conditions of funding hold ups. The whole impeachment is not a farce no matter how many times you or Trump's hired guns say it. He has been impeached. Hopefully it is a message to him, but he seems immune to learning which is the reason for pushing for his immediate removal rather than waiting for the GOP to go down the drain with him in the next election. The impeachment is hopefully a message to all future Presidents, Republicans, Democrats, or others that pressuring or bribing a foreign power to provide you with an emolument in the form of election interference or campaign funding is not a good idea and is fundamentally un-American and unconstitutional.

Frontline is now showing a program on Martin Luther and the Catholic Church selling of "indulgences" to escape purgatory. Such indulgences were hawked by a priest named Tetzel. Luther denounced the con which had more to do with raising money to build church facilities that it did with the Bible. Tetzel was taking advantage of the peasant ignorance and fear. A reader found this link on Johann Tetzel.
Luther's thesis aimed to fix problems with the Catholic Church. But the church underestimating him was a major mistake. Luther advocated free public education so everybody, including women, could read the Bible which he believed should be translated from Latin into local languages. Not all those educated today read the Bible, but our whole society benefits greatly from the ideas of Martin Luther.
Now in an area having nearly nothing to with religion, Donald Trump has entered the world of politics and government. It seems to me that Trump has much in common with the despised priest Tetzel. Trump and his apostles are selling one false dogma after another. Trickle-down economics, absurd tax proposals, etc. He has suckered far too many people with his lies and distortions and false promises.
Perhaps this is one of those times when ignorance of the past dooms the US to molder in the same old disasters of the past.
This morning visibility was not good. Fog blanketed the area and apparently it was over enough of SD that transportation was interrupted. Some specialists did not make it into local hospital today. For some of the patients wuo made it to town, the video system apparently worked. I don't know any details at all about that, but weather was a factor for sure.
This evening, the setting sun is fiery red and haze is evident even if Wiley Field weather shows clear skies.
Meanwhile in the "news", The HARPERS magazine that came today has a couple pages of type analyzing if Trump is really a populist. The writer concludes that he is not even if he appeared to campaign as one. That what we really have with the Trump administration is plutocracy. Those who thought they were "forgotten" when they voted for Trump should already know that this Trump administration could care less about them and has not only failed to remember them, but also has forgotten everybody who isn't already obscenely rich and influential.
If we and the forgotten don't get a strong message to our congress critters, healthcare is threatened, education is threatened, world peace is threatened, and the economy will go bust, etc.
John Dean of the Nixon administration and Watergate testimony days, was on Charlie Rose a night or two ago. He said that Nixon and Trump share arrogance. Trump and Nixon differed in presenting it. Nixon was basically shy. Trump is not. Nixon did not make his arrogance grossly public, but it was apparent to his co-workers. Nixon was well informed and experienced. Trump flaunts his arrogance and ignorance. Dean and others have noted that Nixon could look you in the eye and lie and lie. Trump has been described by lawyers getting depositions from him as a liar..and a thief, a bully, and a crook. His business dealings reek of arrogance, deceptioon and dishonesty. Dean noted that Nixon's tendency to lie and not even regard it as a problem seems to be shared with Trump. Nixon's arrogance and too skillful lying got him and the country into serious trouble. Dean hopes that Trump will get his act cleaned up or the United States is in for another mess of trouble. And if we don't see Trump's income tax records, we will not know who he is actually representing. Congress is very remiss in not demanding those records immediately considering what appears to be a Russian connection to his election and administration members.
Trump is disgusting, but even more disgusting are the GOP) congress critters and voters who would criticize Obama and Clinton if they stepped on a sidewalk crack but are blindly supporting the Trump Administration as it stumbles from one lie and deception to another often with both BS-smeared feet in their mouths.. Their hypocrisy and willing blindness and deafness to problems, lies, and deception is even more disturbing in many ways than is Trump himself. By now they should know what he is and why he and his policies can be very dangerous both to the country and to the very Republicans supporting him as well.

I watched Jason Miller ?? verbally dance around facts and opinion and dodge questions with typical Trump boilerplate bullshit today. I frankly don't remember if it was ABC-TV or CBS-TV.
One of his claims was that Trump had accomplished more in 3 weeks than most presidents do in a year. That is the alternate factoid. Something closer to the awkward fact and awkward truth is that Trump arrogance and ignorance has generated more serious errors and bungles in 3 weeks that 3 other Presidents did in 3 terms.
Trump seems insane in his failing to distinguish his own BS from reality. His spokesliars aid and abet his lies and distortions acting as if Trump is somehow normal. I know nobody else who is so completely separated from reality as is Trump..that is from the lowliest manual laborer to the best professors.
Repel and Replace the GOP Congress Critters who are complicit with Trump's smoke and mirrors incompetence, lies and deception, and political nightmares.
** Stay tuned even if politics has become almost too dreadful to view. Remember, Eternal vigilance is the price of liberty.--- Doug Wiken
Trump is so vain and narcissistic and such a pathological liar that he has drifted into insanity. He has recently made statements that contradict photos and other data indicating the crowd at his inaugural attendance was lower than those of Obama and other Presidents. Now he is blathering about widespread election fraud involving 5 million illegal votes that caused him to lose the popular vote to Hillary Clinton. No evidence exists to support his insane claims. He sends out his support liars to tangle with truth and reality making them look like complete fools
He went to to the CIA headquarters bringing his own cheerleading squad with him. He claimed that despite his recent charges that the agency acted as if it was "nazi", he really loved the people working there. He claimed the rift with the CIA was manufactured by a lying press claiming the feud existed.
Trump thinks he is feuding with the press. He is actually at war with truth, facts, and reality. If we had a member of our family with these kinds of demented ideas, we would be seeking medical or psychiatric care for them. Perhaps more than releasing his tax returns, he should submit to a psychiatric exam. If he doesn't, it is time for US Congress to take action.
But wait, there is more. While he hammered "America first, America first" in his inaugural address, he has now decided we the forgotten should welcome Canadian and China-backed pipeline companies pushing their pipelines carrying toxic hydrocarbons across area rivers, reservoirs, aquifers, pastures, and farmland. How can giving foreign companies this ability to destroy our water supplies and habitat have anything to do with "America First"?

This is a test of true blue Republican blood and credentials. If you see TRUMP on a ballot it is actually an acronym for Castrated, blind, lame yellowdog on life support (R). (I am not sure about that acronym, but have started reading a Dave Berry book and from that, I can see it is no problem. There must be a language somewhere in the universe where the acronym is correct). But back to the test.
If you are a certifiable true believer Republican, all you will see in the above is the (R) and you will know what to do even if TRUMP himself is claiming your vote will be stolen or dumped into a Ronald Reagan toxic waste dump. The TRUMP poll watchers will absolutely KNOW who you voted for and you will be awarded within days by mail a CCRTBCM (Certificate of Certifiable Republican True Believer of Candidates and Mythology). This and $10 will get you a couple loaves of bread, but more importantly, presenting it to a mental health facility will gain you instant permanent admission to a new living space with lots of agreeable company (if you live in South Dakota).
And, as you gnaw your way through two loaves of bread, you must remember that you have absolutely no excuse or reason to ever vote for any Democratic candidate even if their positions completely represent your best interests and mirror your actual thinking when that happens. Your Republican God will never forgive you and you will be listed on the permanently damned and banned from state work (If you live in South Dakota).

Hard to even listen to some of the GOP convention clowns let alone actually look at them. Rudy Giuliani is making a few good points in a pile of the usual GOP crap. He is pointing out the mistake President Obama makes by refusing to use the term similar to "radical Islamic terrorism". Not using it for actual terrorists, but using a more general term which effectively labels all Muslims as terrorism. That however is only a few words out of a pile of flaming crap that make any sense. Giuliiani's voice is really, really irritating...more so than even Hillary's.
The crap is rolling off the screen with the usual trickle-down economic foolishness, and blaming Obama for nearly every problem the GOP retrogrades have produced.
I am recording this from PBS. I guess it is just a waste of a 30 cent DVD. I suspect I will waste a buck or two altogether on this.

Commentary of all kinds is turning up on the French tragedy of Islamicist terrorists murdering innocents. Below are a couple links with info and perspectives worth reading.
It seems to me that both of these pieces even if coming from different perspectives and world views support my idea in the previous post here. The only way to stop attacks on media by governments and fanatical murdering terrorist pigs is to give them what they are against in spades. The Chrlie Hebdo articles should be printed in every media outlet that claims to prize freedom of speech and press. Freedom of speech and press is meaningless if it only applies to commercial speech or that approved by religious or government control freaks.

The weather in this part of the midwest has been rather nasty for the past week or so and has gotten worse overnight. Must be five or six inches of snow and it is blowing with wind gusting to 16, now 12 and averaging 11mph. Only about 13F degrees at 1:30 in the afternoon.
If there is any consolation in this, it is that this cold and some snow is reaching nearly to the gulf coast and hopefully the jackasses who think the XL pipeline is still a good idea are also freezing their asses off.
The ultimate Democratic insult to those who care about the earth and safe drinking water and rational energy policies is that these conniving bastards in congress will consider supporting the XL pipeline to aid getting a Landrieu? from Louisiana into the US Senate. This is just plane dispicable partisan politics at the lowest possible level without regard to anything that makes any sense.
As for Democratic Senators and Republican retrograde senators and congressmen, a pox on both your houses.
***Stay tuned, maybe the weather and my disposition will improve and maybe the shortsighted plutocrats will wake up to revolutionary reality-- Doug Wiken
Let's get the reasons for not supporting any Republicans for the US Senate and Congress into one image:
A bit simplistic, but look at what Rounds and Noem actually say. They are threats to the environment with their mindless support of fossil fuels. Their support from big money is a threat to a functioning democracy. Rounds pandering to the insurance industry is a threat to medicare. His tax breaks for the rich are more unworkable trickle-down mythology. These Republicans really are toxic.
