SDPB-Radio had North/South Dakotan Rory Hoffman on with his music and his story. Good music and an interesting story. He and his siblings were apparently born blind, but with a lot of musical talent. Check his story and his albums, etc at his website. He ended the radio program on SDPB indicating he wanted to do concerts in South Dakota and would do them as gospel, jazz or country. Somebody somewhere in South Dakota should contact him and take him up on his offer and toss in a thank you to SDPB for the program..
Website of Rory Hoffman..His Story, His Sister's Book, His albums
His family still ranches near the South Dakota-North Dakota border north of Lemmon, SD. He said their phone prefix was in North Dakota, but mailing address in South Dakota and they went to school in Lemmon,SD.
.*** Stay tuned..you can do a lot worse --- Doug Wiken
Two crazy connections:
(1) I taught Rory Hoffman Algebra II at Lemmon HS.
(2) Rory's sister Connie is Bob Ellis's wife.
[[Note from Doug: South Dakota is so small that one almost needs a family directory of the place to catalog the wonderful craziness here. I suppose Bob Ellis is totally horrified that a brother-in-law of his has appeared on evil, socialistic SDPB Radio I liked his music anyway ]]]

Ha. I often wondered what ever became of mr. Heidelberger. I still don't like Algebra 2 btw. I have enough issues with rational and real things; I prefer not to think about imaginary numbers and irrational equations or whatever the heck all that was we were exploring. Anyway, someday I might be on Fox news, and then you can be totally mortified that you were my Algebra teacher. :)
[[[Note from Doug-- Rory, thanks for the comment. Did I hear correctly about your vision? If so, how do you handle the internet? One of my older friends is loosing his vision and we found a browser that will read text as audio.
You can find out more than you will want to know about "Mr" Heidelberger at his blog Madville Times. Google will find it.
Maybe you can find a place in Winner, SD for a concert.
Good luck and congratulations on your being honored. ]]]]
