South Dakotans know their Congressman Wild Bill Janklow drove fast if not well. In several accident reports, he allegedly noted what police and patrolmen later called "phantom" cars.
Janklow's arrogant disregard for the lives and rights of others finally killed a motorcyclist in an intersection where crash reports indicated Janklow drove a friend's Cadillac through a stop sign at somehwere between 55 and 75 miles per hour. Some have noted the speed limit there is 'zero". Janklow's sentencing and appeals are coming up soon. I think he should be sentenced in the style he advocated when he was governor. Pay the full fine. Spend 30 days in a county jail. Then spend the next 10 years confined to his house north of Sioux Falls with a GPS electronic collar around his neck. As part of such a "soft" knee-jerk liberal sentence, he should also agree never to drive a vehicle on a public highway again.
