BSE .(.Bovine Somatatrophic Encepthapy?) has turned up as a possible problem in the US beef meat supply. Short of inspecting all slaughtered cattle and holding them out of the meat processing system until any animal has been shown test negative for BSE, I don't see any other approaches very reassuring. The 40,000 test proposal of the Bush administration is about 39 million short. All slaughtered animals should be tested for at least a year.
The photo taken at a grocery store suggests another solution to the meat contamination problem, but I suspect that is not a particularly appetizing solution and with cannibals getting pecular brain diseases probably a cure much, much worse than the "disease".
