*** Obituary-- "Scad" Voss, Music Teacher

My wife has reminded me off and on for the past 40 years or so what a good High School band Winner, SD had back when she was in high school.  I mostly said something like, "Why sure."  Having seen recent bands here at Winner, I was not so sure about that.

In the past week, other local band members of that time here brought out information they had collected about the band from the Winner Advocate and highschool annuals of those days.  Those stories indicated the band here then was probably extraordinarily good. A CD copied from a vinyl was good.  The band got Superlative Plus, Plus ratings at band contests and many of the band members over the years ended up in the State Bands.  The band director in those days was Orville "Scad" Voss.

A memorial service for Voss may be here in Winner around May 26, 2012.  His wife was from Winner.

*** Conservative blogger Andrew Breitbart dead

Andrew Brietbart wrote stuff like this:

Breitbart seldom showed restraint in his vitriol to his critics and seemed to relish in the negative attention his antics earned him.

After Sen. Edward M. Kennedy of Massachusetts died in 2009, Breitbart tweeted, "Rest in Chappaquiddick" and called him "a special pile of human excrement." When critics questioned his tone, he tweeted they "missed my best ones!"

Unlike that, some liberals are being relatively kind in their comments regarding the death of Breitbart at age 41.. Huffington Post on Andrew Breitbart Death

Others are less kind.     May he rot in Peace.

*** Obituary: Jack M. Weiland, Rapid City, SD. January 11, 2012

With all the hype about Republican Bill Janklow dying of brain cancer and all the compliments to his ability and extraordinary skill in making appointments by those he appointed, the passing of a classic good-old Democrat will probably get little attention.

But check the obituary in this post continuation for the Rapid City Journal obituary of Jack M. Weiland.  Jack age 93 died Wednesday January 11, 2012. In his younger days, he was a firebrand Democrat who aggravated people like Bill Janklow and conservatives who spouted their mythology endlessly.  Jack actually did work for the people who were not rich and connected.  My sincere condolences to the members of his family.
