The title of this post is essentially the gag line in a recent Fusco Brothers cartoon. It happens to apply very well to a column written by George Will concerning bailouts and other history in the US car industry that was in the April 8, 2010 Mitchell Daily Republic.
It was titled Intersection for disaster...Bailouts end culling of automaker herd. Will works into his column some interesting auto history even managing to mention the big tits of TV startlet Dagmar in reference to protuberances on old Cadillacs by GM stylist Harley Earl, the dead personna in Buick ads a year or two ago.. While filling space with such interesting tidbits (not titbits), Will's main attempt as usual is to attack government involvement.. in this case saving automakers. He concludes with a plea for Darwinian thinning of the automaker herd.
It would seem to me that the "herd" has already been "thinned" to the point that it is closer to a pair than a herd. Will is so busy attacking the idea of government "intervention" in the economy, that he seems to have missed something obvious. Any further "Darwinian thinning" will lead to extinction of the US auto industry.
Will is slightly more sophisticated version of the SSBBII types in the Tea Bag movement. Start using SSBBII when you feel charitable toward the loony wingnuts of the right. SSBBII means "Simple Souls Blinded By Irrelevant Ideology". Accept that or assume instead that they are willfully ignorant or deceptive.
And remember that columnists like George Will are often a "half-filled glass" but half-filled with horse manure. Thanks to cartoonist J.C. Duffy for that line.
*** Stay tuned for more nonsense which may now and then be the left-wing version of the half-filled glass --- Doug Wiken
