KELO and SDPB radio reported a few minutes ago that President Obama vetoed or his State Dept rejected the pipeline plan. His justification being that the pipeline is not in the US interest. He is correct.
Even if our Republican retrogrades Daugaard, Noem, Thune, and Rounds are crying that the sky is falling, it is all BS on their part. This Republican cant, crap has nothing to do with US interest or the best interests of South Dakota. Their support for the XL pipeline and Trans-Canada has everything to do with corporate profits and corporate contributions to partisan politics and nothing to do that is good for our interests.
Trans-Canada in an interview with Bloomberg News indicated the intent of the XL pipeline was to get the "glut of crude oil" out of the midwest so that fuel prices could be raised 10 to 20 cents per gallon in states like South Dakota.
Obama's killing of this project is good news for South Dakotans and other Americans and for the economy and for the environment. The predictable reactions of our SD Republican duds was and is entirely predictable and entirely wrong. It confirms every worst assumption about these corporate tools.
