As most of you probably know by now, Microsoft decided to abandon Windows XP like an old dirty sock and push the latest of their bloated operating systems. I finally got a system with W8.0 and upgraded to W8.1. I don't like it one bit more than I liked WXP. Some of it is klutzy.
I just heard yesterday that the Chinese government has decided to ban Microsoft products on State computers in hopes of stimulating development of a Chinsese takeoff from Linux apparently. Right now, the majority of Chinese computers have WXP or earlier versions on them.
If you have an old underpowered computer, you might want to check into Pinguy version of Ubunta a Linux-based system. Pinguy packages a lot of compatible software tuned to it. When I get this a bit better organized, I will add some links on Pinguy and actually installing and using it.
Note of May 27, 2014--- Check SD Science Junction for more detail on installing and using Pinguy OS based on my testing of a previous version, etc.
