The South Dakota legislature could be discussing how to move the state economy ahead, how to improve science education, how to cut college administrative costs, or even shifting to a unicameral system and cutting legislative waste in half. But no, they are pushing resolutions urging the Supreme Court of the US to revisit Roe v. Wade.
From SDPB legislative coverage, one legislator had the arrogance or ignorance to claim his vote was a vote on the side of God and Jesus or something similar. Not quite the way to separate religion and state.
Now, if the legislature would send a resolution of support to the US Congress for a federal distant transaction tax refunded to states, or a resolution urging that no federal funds be dumped into infrastructure in areas prone to catastrohic flooding unless they get the US moving in the direction of less fossil fuel consumption, then they might not be wasting their time completely and might actually be on the side of science and the people.
Sometimes it seems sad the SD legislature only meets for 40 days or so, but then when they are watched and studied, it might be better for SD if they only met for one day.
