A few years ago, I heard or read Calvin Trillon use the term "Sabbath Gasbags" to describe the politicians and pundits that were seen over and over again on Sunday Morning ABC, CBS, NBC press and talk "news" shows. This morning reminded me of that and there is now a new post header image here.
But, to get to some sort of a point here. I watched interviews with SOS Hillary Clinton, SOD Gates, and former SOD Rumsfeld. The discussions were primarily about the US entry into a "war" with Libya. Whenever asked anything that did not specifically address a specific event that was known to all, the response was some variation of "I won't discuss hypotheticals". However, in practically the next breath they would present their own hypothetical disaster situation if some policy had or had not been pursued.
So, the next time you watch these programs, remember what seems to be the participants assymetrical rule: " I won't discuss YOUR hypotheticals, but we must discuss MY hypotheticals."
Beyond that, Newt Gingrich took a few good shots in the before and after positions category. His position on Libya no-fly-zones etc was summed up in the "First I was for them but now that Obama did them, I am against them." No definition of "hypocritical" should fail to include Newt Gingrich as an exemplar of the category.
*** Stay tuned and remember that if you are ripping up those thick page ads from a magazine, don't put them on top of another magazine first. Trust me, it takes a lot of tape to get the keeper magazine taped back together. --- Doug Wiken
