**Joe Klein in TIME considers the Bush Lame Duck Legacy

Unitary_presidency_dt2blue Joe Klein in the December 8, 2008 TIME magazine page 27 writes a column titled "The Lamest Duck". Klein summarizes some of the highs and lows of the Bush Administration and writes a few choice comments including those below.

It is too early to rate the performance of Bush's economic team, but we have more than enough evidence that the President was a cipher.

After noting the images of Bush on an aircraft carrier under the "MISSSION ACCOMPLISHED" sign and of Bush looking out an airplane window high above the disastrous mess left by Hurricane Katrina, Klein writes

This is a presidency that has wobbled between those two poles-- overweening arrogance and paralytic incompetence.

 Klein concludes with

In the end, though it will not be the creative paralysis that defines Bush. It will be his intellectual laziness, at home and abroad. Bush never understood, or cared about, the delicate balance between freedom and regulation that was necessary to make markets work. He never understood, or cared about, the delicate balance between freedom and equity that was necessary to maintain the strong middle class required for both prosperity and democracy. He never considered the complexities of the cultures he was invading. He never understood that faith, unaccompanied by rigorous skepticism, is a recipe for myopia and foolishness.

He is less than President now, and that is appropriate. He was never very much of one.

The Sunday November 30, 2008 ARGUS had an opinion column from McClatchy News concerning Bush's last ditch efforts to enrich cronies at the expense of the taxpayer with his executive orders gutting environmental regulations and granting mining rights in very scenic areas of the US.

My guess is that we will see soon after Bush the Minor leaves office that he becomes member of multiple boards of directors getting a fat pay check for once a year meetings as did his father with Barrick Gold which benefited greatly by near last minute grants of mining rights on federal land by Bush the elder.

The US would be a much better place today if at least Barbara Bush had been sterile as a Freemartin and even likely an even better place if George Bush's parents had both been sterile. The Bush legacy is a record of disaster upon disaster built on a house of liar's cards .

At least the junior Bush should rank somewhere in the list of presidents with the worst historical ratings. Herbert Hoover, Grant, and a few others deserve the company of George Bush.
