[ON EDIT: Actual reddhedd-ed lawyerat FireDogLake Blog discussing some of the prosecution misbehavior
Shameful Prosecutorial Misbehavior, Scathing Comment by Judge quoted posted by Christy Hardin Smith. [note. FireDogLake Blog is in the middle of moving or changing and the links to it don't seem to work consistently]
Onward to Rube Goldberg who drew "inventions". Insanely complex ways to get something of perhaps some significance or perhaps not significant and often done for odd reasons . A few of the cartoon inventions here.
Onward a few more steps. The government's approach to prosecution in the sentencing phase of the Zacharias Moussoui (ZM). case seems to me to be so very novel and convoluted and far-fetched that it drifts into the area of special law perhaps called "Rube Goldberg Style Novel Prosecutions". This is a little known area of arcane law that has been greatly expanded during the Bush administrations. Well, actually it man never have existed before the Bush administrations
It seems (if I haven't fundamentally mis-heard news that just plain doesn't exist because it does seem more than passing strange).. that Bush Justice Dept. attorneys are making the case that if only ZM had just told interrogators the whole truth..perhaps even truth they had not even bothered to ask him about..that a whole lot of good things would have happened and a whole lot of bad things wouldn't have happened. Examples might include:
1. Bush administration would have known that terrorists would attempt to hijack planes and Condosleeza would never have said, "Who would have imagined that terrorists would use an airplane on September 11 to fly into a building?"
2. The FAA knowing that such an attack was possible would have had pilots cabins rebuilt with terrorist-proof doors and all kinds of other security changes made with air marshalls everywhere.
3. George Bush would never have said, "I don't have any war plans on my desk."
That is probably just a start of things which would and would not have happened if only ZM had spilled the beans...at least that is what prosecutor;s case seems to suggest.
I find all of that rather doubtful because the Bush administration has had advance notice of a lot of problems and still failed with incredible catastrophe as a consequence of failing to follow up the intelligence or other information or plan, or seek appropriations, etc. But, let's play along with this prosecution idea.
Let's prosecute everybody in current and past Bush administrations for telling lies to the Congress, for failing to tell all the details, for ignoring details, etc. that let poor Georgy Boy to decide to attack Iraq and to spread all those lies to Congress to get such authority.
Just think how many thousand US soldiers would not have been killed or maimed unnecessarily in Bush's Quixotic Attack on Iraq. Imagine how many innocent Iraqi citizens would not have been murdered. Imagine how much better our country would be without the incredible debt that is a consequence of the lies of these people.
Just for starters, Rumsfeld, Condoleeza Rice, Dangerous Dick Cheney, Gen. Colin Powell, Sen. Frist, et al, et al.......
The whole administration with the possible exception of those who resigned in disgust or were fired for actually trying to tell the truth, should be subject to this "Rube Goldberbeg style" of novel prosecution.
Were I in the mood, there would be a cartoon with a pig trained to fly by the FAA which would fly off to trigger something that would spill something or trip over center some machinery and ultimately capture terrorists bombers and plane flyers, etc. Many steps in this drawing--all improbable as safe sex with a porcupine....
I guess I just don't understand why there are not outraged congressmen and senators and editors and columnists and bloggers everywhere who are not totally amazed, astonished, and outraged at the absurdity of the convolutions of law and logic that seem daily events with the Bush administration and its excusers and apologists. Why aren't they all outraged by the number of "terrorists" where after languishing in jail for months or years are found innocent by juries or judges. Why are so many prosecution cases just plain humbug?
**Stay tuned, but isn't it really time to stick your head out a window and yell "What the Hell is wrong with this Country ?"---Doug Wiken

ZM coulda stood on W's desk in the OOffice and he wouldn't got anyone to pay attention to what he knew, Doug.
Thanks for letting us Coast Folk know that there's wisdom in the heartland. I really like your site and hope mightily that there's more people like you where you live.
Thanks for linking from fdl -- it's nice to know we share that, and I always enjoy coming here to see what's up in your neck of the woods. It seems like the Preznit's policies (oxymoron) are about as intelligible to you as they are to me.
How about that new fdl layout, huh? And ReddHedd has a real name!
